The beautiful walled garden at Bellefield, County Offaly has featured here before (see A Gardener’s Legacy « The Irish Aesthete). Both the garden and its adjacent house were bequeathed to the Royal Horticultural Society of Ireland four years ago following the death of its owner, Angela Jupe and since then it has served as an ideal venue for a series of events open to the public. On Saturday July 12th, I shall be giving a talk at Bellefield on the history and evolution of walled gardens in Ireland, as part of a day dedicated to exploring the subject.
