Robert , thank you so much for your Trojan efforts on behalf of the diminishing built heritage of Ireland . My Christmas stocking contained your book , the Ruins of Ireland ,and I am in awe of the catalogue of lost cultural capital to the country . Which , despite how these places were funded or owned , they were a celebration of the Irish craftsmen and tradesmen and native skills that brought them to being . Alas , the petty minded and the” fumblers of the greasy tills ” held sway in the painfull birth of the republic when so many of these losses were sustained . I hope this period of remembrance of the birth pangs of our republic draws attention to these crimes and the ongoing criminal neglect of the built environment can be arrested .
Here in Melbourne we have the same accelerated destruction and loss of our beautiful built heritage to the onslaught of glass and steel boxes and greed.
Merry Christmas , Robert , stay safe in this Covid climate, the fight must go on .
Many, many thanks Robert for for your wonderful commentary all through the year on our heritage. With every best wish, for the year and years ahead. John Logan
Merry Christmas Robert. Your book The Irish Aesthete was given to me on Christmas morning. Great book and essential reading for anyone browsing this website.
Very best wishes for the coming year, Robert. Thank you for the insights, opinions, heart-break and optimism (in roughly equal measure). Oh, and keep up the good work.
Many happy returns.
